I saw Speedy on the Morning News today!

Postby Darkbeer » Wed Sep 15, 2010 5:52 am

I am watching the local KTLA, Channel 5 morning news, and they are covering the decision by the City of Anaheim to raise Hotel taxes by 2%. (That's right, Hotel Taxes will now be 17% in Anaheim... don't blame HoJo's!). But much of the "stock" footage was HoJo's, including the sign on Building 1, and Speedy (though it was the pre-Castaway Cove version). Still made my morning. They had some weird Hotel as the opening graphic (Nothing I have ever seen in Anaheim, and then the Fairfield was the other hotel in the stock footage).

GO SPEEDY!

That's really cool [that Speedy was on TV, not that lodging taxes in Anaheim are going up]- I wish I had seen it too! Thanks for letting us know! :D

I agree about the Taxes go up (BOO!), looks like Garden Grove will also boost their Hotel Taxes 2% for the "Tourism Tax" to promote the area.

I still have a small "stuffed" Speedy I was given to me by the Hotel years ago, and have always thought of Speedy as being the Mascot of the Hotel. (FYI, Speedy is the Turtle in the young kids Sprayground area near the Front Lobby in Castaway Cove)

Looking forward to staying at HoJo's again, but I have been so busy, between my Honeymoon trip in June and now a major "Halloween" week in early October, where I get to go to all three "Adult" themed Theme Park events. (And get your mind out of the gutter, Adult being not family friendly, and the events are designed for those at least 13 years of age and older, aka Scary).

I should mention Knott's (my first one this year, last year I got to be a "guest" monster for an hour... lots of fun, but glad I don't do it on a regular basis). If you want to attend the event while staying at HoJo's, stop by a Burger King and grab a discount coupon, full price is $56, but it can go as low as $33 with the coupon (discount is based on the day, slower days are cheaper than expected larger crowds). Also headed off to Universal Studios Hollywood's Horror Nights and Six Flags Magic Mountain's Fright Fest.

And since HoJo's is so close to Disneyland, I should mention the Mickey's Halloween Parties being held, which are very much Family Friendly. (Knott's also has a family friendly event on weekends in October (Camp Spooky) during the day time hours, but at no extra charge).

The Disneyland event will have the main park (Disneyland) closing early on October 1, 5, 8, 12, 15, 19, 22, 26, 29 and 31. California Adventure will stay open until 8 PM, and even offer an 8:15 PM World of Color Show (Rides close at 8 PM, but guests are allowed to stay and watch the Water Show). But Disneyland will not be available unless you have a special ticket in the evening on those days.

One hint, they will offer Fireworks on the dates listed, so if you don't have a ticket, you can always head to HoJo's Jacuzzi and watch them from the Hotel.

Once again, GO SPEEDY! :D

Sorrry to tell you the bad news, the increased Hotel Tax starts November 1st, 2010.

http://www.ocregister.com/news/tax-2665 ... -city.html

Note, HoJo's (and any other Hotel/Motel in Anaheim) has the option of not placing it on the bill, but instead paying it themselves. But however the Hotel handles it, the city will be getting 17% of the amount charged...
