It will actually be my birthday when we are over next month, could anyone recommend nice restaurants of any food type within walking distance where I can also take my young daughter of almost 8 years, I do love including her but do realise that it's not too appropriate in the more fine dining style places, and also come to think of it anywhere I should avoid with a young child. Would also consider within a short taxi ride. Thanks.
Hi beseeinyou! There is a Tony Roma's down on S. Harbor Blvd. We ate there last summer, and it was a pretty nice restaurant and the kids liked it, too (ages 9 & 5). Here is a link to the website, and you can even check out the menu! http://www.tonyromas.com/files/location ... ?state=CA#

We shall certainly visit Tony Roma's, we have tried it in Orlando & Edmonton and never been let down, they actually just opened their 1st one in Scotland around a year ago not far from where I live and it was also good.
There is a nice group of upper-scale restaurants in the new Anaheim GardenWalk, which is a couple of blocks south of HoJo's.
I think with a child, Bubba Gump's is a great choice for something different. Themed, so you have a lot of fun, especially if you have seen the Forrest Gump movie, and great food. The servers/hosts have fun with the kids starting while waiting for a table until you leave.
Reasonable priced (less than $20 per person excluding Alcoholic beverages), and a fun upscale but still casual atmosphere.
And if you want something a bit more fancy, the Cheesecake Factory is amazing, great food, and be prepared to need "Doggie Bags".
I would second the recommendation for Bubba Gumps. I usually avoid the big themed chains, but we tried this out during our visit last month and were impressed with the service and quality of the food. While their menu does not cater toward 'light' we were able to find some really good choices to keep us on our diet. The kids (4&6) liked the kids meals that came in a cardboard boat and the blue jello was a hit. The theme is casual, so I'm not sure that fits with your definition of 'nice', but I think it would be a great place for a celebration.
