Fireworks Lockdown Possible??

Postby Vickie » Fri Apr 30, 2010 8:52 pm

When they run the fireworks at Disneyland they always do it at about 9:30 pm. (Not sure if they are doing this every night anymore or only on Fri-Sat, but I think the frequency may increase in the summer)

Would it be possible to program the Mattercam to lock down on the Matterhorn view every night at about 9:27 pm and hold in that position for about 15 minutes or so? Watching the cam tonight I could see the light flashes on the Tower of Terror, the Castle, etc from the fireworks but only got a few seconds glimpse of the fireworks display itself over the Matterhorn before the camera scanned off to a different view.

Its a great show and I'm sure lots of people would like to be able to watch the whole display!

Thanks ... love our little webcam! :D

I am beng lazy, so this is what I wrote at Wikipedia....

>>Scheduling of fireworks shows depend on the time of year, during the slower off-season periods, the fireworks are only offered on weekends. During the busier times, Disney does offer additional nights, such as an extra night for a 3 day holiday. Also, Disney does offer Fireworks nightly during its busy periods, which includes Easter/Spring Break, Summer and Christmas time. The show is normally offered at 9:25 PM if the park is scheduled to close at 10 PM or later, but shows have started as early as 5:45 PM. Also, a major consideration is weather/winds, especially at higher elevations, which can force the cancellation of the show. Disney usually waits an additional time (15 minutes) to see if the winds die down. Shows, with a few minor exceptions, such as July 4th and New Years Eve, must finish by 10 PM due to the conditions of the permit issued by the City of Anaheim.<<

Thanks for the interesting info DarkBeer!

Yes, I live close enough to Disneyland to hear the fireworks off in the distance and I can never be sure if they will be going on any given night, it is an erratic schedule to be sure (in years past it was every night at about 9:30 like clockwork - must be a budget thing...).

But a programmed lockdown on the Matterhorn everynight would only be for a few minutes (maybe 15 mins or so?) and if the cam stopped in that position at about 9:24 every evening, we'd be assured a good view of the show on any night the park does decide to run the display.

Its kind of frustrating to be watching the firework lights flashing on buildings and not being able to get the camera moved over to the Matterhorn view quickly to catch the show!

Ok, since we are in "Local" mode, we need to talk about a SECOND major Fireworks show, The Anaheim Angels (I refuse to call it by the "LAA-LAA" name). For those visiting HoJo's. the stadium is about 3 miles east to southeast of the hotel. Interesting to note, the baseball fireworks (Big Bang Fridays and special days) have no time limit, and go off after the ninth inning. Many locals get confused between the 2 shows.

Gee, also interesting Darkbeer! All these years and I never knew that (well, I'm not a sports fan and really have no idea what goes on over at the stadium  - but I do like eating at the Phoenix Club over near there! ) But I'm quite sure the fireworks I'm hearing are coming from DL. Well, maybe if the program can be date or day specific Hojo could lock the Mattercam in fireworks view only on Fri-Sat-Sun nights...
