I Must Be Mad!!

Postby firefox2 » Mon Nov 09, 2009 11:48 pm

A couple of days ago, I had a conversation with my hubby re: what he wants for Christmas and his birthday (Jan. 23), and as usual, he kept saying that he wanted nothing. Then he turned around and said he wanted tickets to see the Anaheim Ducks play Vancouver Canucks (he meant in Vancouver, as we live across the water in Victoria), but being that I have converted him from a Toronto fan to an Anaheim fan, I knew it was because of the ducks that he wanted to go to a game. So I asked innocently.....a game in Vancouver?, and he jokingly said......"no...a game in Anaheim". Well we just came back from an 8 day stint in Anaheim in September for my birthday, 6 days in the park and a ducks game.

Sooo, I started thinking.....why not? I mean, how often can someone do this? Sooo, as I type this, I have been planning a trip as follows:
We fly down early on Jan. 19th and spend the day at the parks, then head to the Anaheim/Buffalo game for 7:00 PM, next day, hit the parks for the entire day, meeting (yet again) with a Disboards friend from Australia whom we met in September, take hubby out for a birthday dinner at some point, and then fly back home on the 21st LOL
He knows I am up to something, and keeps asking for hints, so I give him off the wall hints that are true, but yet throw him way off

This is hilarious, crazy and yet so much fun. Now, I am thinking of Goofy's Kitchen for his birthday dinner, any idea which route I go to get a cake? I believe it's a different # than the one I call for reservations?

Thanks...I am excited too, this is so much fun, he has been home alot (working graveyards), so I have been e-mailing the travel agent
When we arrive, it will be early (if I get the flight I want), so we will check our luggage and go to the ducks team store first. I was wondering how the heck I can get a taxi out of there, we won't be bringing a cell phone this time, as we have to have a long distance plan on it for a month, so not worth it, and if I recall there are no phones nearby. My cell wouldn't work there anyways, and the clerk at the store couldn't reach the company either, so we had to walk across the street to get a signal on the cell. Any idea if a cab driver would be able to have someone come back and get us 1/2 an hour later from somewhere?

oooooh, I feel so sneaky.

I'm pretty sure that if you told the cab driver at your time of drop-off that you were going to need another pick-up in thirty minutes at that same location, that they'd be able to get that in the system for you!

How fun for you to have this super secret mission! If I was in your position, I'd probably get absolutely everything in place without him knowing....and then blow it by telling him because I cannot keep a surprise secret, LOL! You are so good at this!

It's all I can do not to tell him what is going on, it's killing me
I have a courtesy hold on the flights, park tickets, hotel and express bus, so have to contact the travel agent on Thursday to confirm (when Doug is at work). He is out raking leaves right now, so I just went online to get the tickets for the hockey game, almost the same seats that we had in September too (which were awesome). It's really hard to plan when he and I are working the same shifts, and it doesn't help that my computer is in the main room of the house, he is getting wise and checking tabs when he walks by now, so planning is tricky ;)

E-mailing back and forth with the travel agent, she just confirmed our travel insurance, chuckling as she e-mails me the top secret documents, and now she is just going to pay the full amount so we are done with it, less of a paper trail for him this way.
I still can't believe I am doing this, and he still has no clue. He keeps asking for hints, and I answer truthfully, he asked what mode of transportation we have to use for this adventure, and he touched on EVERYTHING, including helicopter, which I said no to, and when he said boat and train, I said probably, since at some point at Disneyland we will be on one or the other.
At this point, he has himself convinced that we are going to the mainland for a concert of some sort, or maybe West Edmonton mall, which would be a nothing trip for us compared to this. At some point, he checked the Ducks schedule and saw they were playing in Calgary, so he thought maybe we were going to Calgary for the Ducks game hehe
I just let him keep going, and then he thinks of something new, he will never guess this, since we always stay for a week at least when in Anaheim.

This is soooo amazing! I love it! You should keep documenting the whole lead-up to the birthday, because I bet he would get such a kick out of being able to read about all the preparation and planning and secret missions and reconnaissance that went into all this!

I forgot to mention, a few days ago, amid Doug's guessing game, he actually said, oh, maybe we are going to Anaheim to see a Ducks game, and I just looked at him and said...."be realistic!" So, I didn't say no, I just didn't say yes either, since then, he has not gone that route again. Now, since he thinks we are going to Edmonton, he thinks he needs to invest in some winter gear, as we get milder weather here in victoria

Lorealle - I think I will definately show this thread to him after the trip, I think he will get a kick out of it ;)

And it just gets better!! When we went to the Ducks game for my birthday, my mom and the Ducks merchandising coordinator, had been in touch, she had my seat # and everything, and before the game, her and the Manager of operations I believe he was, came to our seats, and brought us each season ticket holder bags filled with stuff including hats and t-shirts, and mine had a mini hockey stick autographed by Scott Niedermayer, Well, my mother just contacted her about us going to a game for Dougs birthday, and.....it sounds like he will have happy birthday wishes from me on the scoreboard, and who knows if she is up to something else. LOL, this just keeps getting better. Ooooops, gotta go, hubby just came home from work hehe
