taking a taxi to the grocery store

How much would a taxi be to the Local Vons ( SAFEWAY ). I found it on google earth, and it shows to be about 2 miles away.So it cant be too much $$$.
Just debating if I should go there, order online and get free delievery or just buy from the Gift Shop at HOJO's. Im thinking the gift shop could be pricey ? What Im looking for is. Cases of water, Cereal, milk, snacks, bread, sandwich meat, plastic plates, bowls and spoons.

I recommend ordering online with free delivery.

A Taxi would probably cost you about $16-18 round trip (based on local taxi rates posted by Darkbeer, and I have learned not to doubt him!)

But more importantly, (at least to me) it’s probably 1-2 hours of valuable vacation time that you won’t be spending enjoying the parks, lounging by the pool, napping, or whatever else you like to do on vacation.

I believe the gift shop has most if not all of the items you mentioned on your list, but my guess would be that it would cost more. So again, I recommend ordering online with free delivery.

Oh yeah, you also might want to check out Albertsons online too. They usualy have a free delivery coupon (though I can't find one for them now!) and have a little different selection and prices.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, but it's nice to have options...

Ok, I had a post typed out and lost it In short I said that Lorealle posted in another thread that Vons was about 1 mile away and Target was about 2 miles away. We went to Target and bought dry goods, milk and juice...everything but fruit and veggies. The taxi ride there was $9 so a taxi to vons would probably be about $5 or $6 each way.

However, I would like to add our story in hopes of saving many people alot of trouble....
Our biggest regret was going to Target. We thought it'd be fun to go there since we'd never been before and we had a plan to go to Target and get everything, not even realizing that they don't sell fruit or veggies!! So then, once we got out of Target, dh went over to the Walgreens (as then we were trying to figure out how to get our fruit and veggies) and they said there was a fruit and veggie stand 3 lights down. No problem, we'll take our groceries down the road in the buggy, come back and get a taxi back. HA, WRONG! It was then that we discovered we couldn't take the buggie out of the parking lot and it was too far a walk for us to carry all our stuff.

Well, not being able to take the buggie was a huge problem so we thought we'd order a cab, stop at the fruit stand, ask the taxi to wait and then go back to the hotel. Easy plan right? NOT! We ended up having to reorder the cab after 15 min (we were told the wait would be 7-10min) and in total ended up waiting 40 min in the hot sun for the taxi!!! He finally comes and dh asks him to take us to the fruit stand 3 lights down, the driver asks him where it is, dh says he's not exactly sure but was told it was 3 lights down this way. Then all of a sudden the driver stops the cab and starts giving dh a lecture on how he's not going to just drive us around all day. Either we know where it is or not and if we don't know then he's not taking us. Ummm hello, what's your job again? We are paying you to drive us right? By this time we were both annoyed, very hot from being in the sun for so long and just wanted to go back to the hotel so that's where we had him take us.

We wasted alot of time on what we thought would be an easy and fun adventure. Do NOT make the same mistake we did.

So, seriously, just order your groceries online or buy them from the gift shop. Spend the extra time in the pool or relax in your room. Really, there wasn't anything (aside from a case of water and even at that I'm sure you could get one) we bought at Target that we couldn't get from the Hojo's gift shop. I didn't think their prices were especially expensive and they carry a TON of stuff! I am shocked at the amount of items that little space can hold! They are really great at keeping everything stocked well too.

In fact, after our less than exciting venture to Target, I ended up getting a cold sore because I got dehydrated and my lips chapped quite badly. Well, I went into the gift shop and they even had medication for that. I totally regret not going into there before even going to Target. We probably would have just opted to shop at the gift shop and avoid going to Target all together. dh and I LOVE the Hojo gift shop and can't say enough good things about it.

They ask for a ZIP code when verifying credit card info. ( ZIP code used for the billing address of your credit card ) Im in Canada, so since my credit card bill goes to a Postal Codes ( V9G1A8 ) it wouldnt work. So we'll just have to figure something out when we get there.

Here are a few ways to get a "temp" credit card number if you ever need one.
PayPal Virtual Mastercard

It took about 20 min at least ( Maybe over half hour, I never acually looked at the time ) We bought grocerys then had Vons call us a taxi. We ended up waiting 1 hour ! They called 3 times for a taxi, everytime the taxi said 10 minutes. The fair was close to $10 to get back to the hotel.

Was it Yellow Cab by chance? lol We had a bad experience with them too. We waited forever and was even told that they actually did come and nobody was there. Ummm...hello we were sitting right out front the whole time! I even waited outside with the kids when my husband called the first and second time. Then when the driver finally did arrive, he was really rude. Sorry to say he got no tip from me.

Yes it was yellow cab, and this guy was also rude. Not friendly at all .
