MAJOR Disneyland event - Early May closures and disruptions

Postby Darkbeer » Sat Mar 12, 2011 12:32 pm

While it has not been officially announced yet, Disneyland Park will host the Movie Premiere of the 4th version of Pirates of the Caribbean on Saturday, May 7th. Park hours that day for Disneyland will be 7 AM to 5 PM (yes, closing that early!), California Adventure will be open from 10 AM to 11 PM.

The set-up issues start Sunday, May 1st.

So the last showing of Fantasmic! will be Saturday, April 30th, and then go on hiatus. Also Tom Sawyer Island will more than like close on Sunday, May 1st for a couple of weeks. Also neither the Mark Twain Steamboat and Sailing Ship Columbia will be available. Dave Crockett Canoes will also not be available.

Pathway and traffic control will happen all week in the Rivers of America area. Attractions like the Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion will remain open, but you will have to read the signs and deal with one way traffic pathways.

On Saturday the 7th, the park opens extra early (but no Magic Morning), and closes at 5 PM (no new guests are allowed in, but those in the park are allowed to hang out in the Main Street Area and watch the stars arrive). Also on Saturday, the west side (Adventureland, New Orleans Square, Critter Country and Frontierland) will close in the early afternoon.

It is a day I don't recommend a tourist to visit the park, unless they want to watch the red carpet. California Adventure will be operating as normal, but will be more crowded as folks choose DCA instead, and then when the Disneyland guests are told to leave around 7 PM, many of them will head to DCA.

Here are some photos of the prior Premiere events, both from the professional "photo/media" locations, and from the public seats (thanks to my wife Lisa).

Also if you search my Disneyland photos for the few days before the premiere photos, there should be plenty of photos of the set-up that is done for the event.

Then after the event, they take the week to clean up the site, and tend to try and have everything reopen by Friday (May 13th).

So expect some issues, especially the weekend of the 6th. But the good news for tourists, the weekdays should have light crowds and much of the park will be operating as normal

We too will be there at that time, not too upset about it.

Based on the photos from the link it looks like a really fun time.

48 Aussie sleeps, 49 US sleeps till we arrive for 8 magic nights.
